OFF THE RECORD began with a collection of forgotten vintage vinyl records left behind by Funky Bazaar founder Peter Buhl. Instead of allowing them to disappear into storage—or the trash—we placed them into the hands of artists, makers, musicians, crafters, and creatively curious people and asked one simple question:

What could this become?

The resulting exhibition is a celebration of reinvention, individuality, and community creativity. Each participant started with a real vinyl record and transformed it into an original work using techniques ranging from painting, carving, collage, fiber, sculpture, ceramics, glass, resin, assemblage, and mixed media to approaches we never could have anticipated.

This collection features original, one-of-a-kind OFF THE RECORD exhibition works available for purchase.

Every piece carries its creator’s distinct interpretation while preserving the record as part of the finished work—turning something forgotten into something entirely new.

Purchasing a piece directly supports the participating creator while helping celebrate the independent, unconventional creative spirit at the heart of Made In Idyllwild and The Funky Bazaar.

No two records are alike. Once an original sells, it’s gone.
